To Vista or XP, that is the question.

Don Reisinger, over at CNET, writes that we should all give up on Vista and just use XP with Service Pack 3.

Samba/Microsoft documentation deal

OK.. I have to admit, I’m not much of a Linux guy.  I’ve dabbled in it a bit.  But, since I earn most of my living writing software that works strictly on a Microsoft platform of one kind or another, there isn’t much that compels me to move to either Mac or Linux.  (And I’ve tried to find a reason several times.)

DotNetKicks with WordPress

You’ll probably notice I’ve added the DotNetKicks “Kick it” icon to the bottom of each post.  For those of you who aren’t aware, DotNetKicks is a relatively new social linking site, like Digg, but specific to .NET programming.  Cool!  This blog is about 80% about .NET programming too.   What a great match!

They have a script that you can use to insert the icon into each post.  But, I’m relatively lazy.  I want to just insert something into WordPress and have it “just work.”  So, I went looking for a plug-in or something.

Extension Methods in VB.NET

Last week we took a look at Extension Methods in CSharp.  Today we will continue looking at Extension methods using VB.NET syntax.  It’s obvious by comparing the syntax in VB.NET to the syntax we used in C#, that either there was a strong disagreement as to how to implement Extension Methods syntactically, or the language teams never talk to each other.

Upgrading to Vista 64 bit

or… How I spent my weekend before the weekend before Christmas

This weekend, I decided that now would be the best time to upgrade to Vista 64 bit (from Vista 32 bit)  And, after more than 60 hours of trying, I finally decided that Vista 64 bit is not worth the effort yet.  The rest of this article outlines what I learned along the way, some things you should be sure to do PRIOR to trying an upgrade, and some pretty severe comments aimed at Microsoft for the poor upgrade experience.
