Sun Micro Buying MySQL?

This just in.  According to the Wall Street Journal Sun Microsystems, Inc. has agreed to buy MySQL (the company).  What’s up with that?

I mean, sure MySQL has come a long way in the last several years.  Sure, the big G uses it as well as many social networking and bookmarking sites.  But, is it really worth $1 billion?

Are we going to have to buy new versions of MySQL?  What’s this mean for all the companies that are using MySQL?  Will Sun be buying PHP next?

Is this a good thing?
