OK.. maybe that’s a bit strong. But, the problem with UML is that it has tried to abstract all of the various languages and ways of programming into symbols and pictures.

Friday Books: Don’t Make Me Think
Of all the books on my bookshelf, this book is probably the most valuable on a per page basis. Most people can read this book in less than 3 hours and come away with everything they really need to know to build a web site that works for the visitor.
This book is required reading for every client I build a web site for.
And, while this book is primarily focused at designing web sites, the principles apply equally to building desktop applications.
