Blue Stack Form Enhancer Review

The folks over at BlueStack asked me to take a look at their new Form Enhancer product. Which I will provide.

The basic gist of this module is that by using jQuery and some images we can style the form elements on a page.

It’s a pretty cool concept with some promising results.

According to their sales copy…

Your forms are ugly! Stop losing traffic and conversions because of your dated and boring form elements.

FormEnhancer takes your normal form elements and skins them for a more professional and usable look. The skins are based on small PNG image files. Simply add the module to any page using a form and it will automatically be skinned. The module itself is invisible and extremely lightweight, just hide the container.

Skins your forms automatically Just add the module to any page… your forms will continue to operate as normal!

Three skins to choose from out of the box. Now supports Textboxes and Buttons in addition to Radios, Checkboxes, and Dropdowns!

FormEnhancer also works great as a complement to form builder modules such as DynamicForms

Create and deliver value.

So how did it perform?

It was pretty easy to install in my DNN5 install, but when I tried to install in DNN4.8.x I got an error.  I have a message back to the developers about this.

I also had a problem with my button not displaying all the text, i.e., clipping.  I’m guessing that has something to do with the interaction between my skin CSS and this control.

It was also interesting that this doesn’t seem to change the appearance of the controls in the Admin panel that shows on the top of each page when you are logged in as an Administrator.

And since it is a module that has to be inserted on a page, you won’t be able to impact the settings page or edit pages for your modules.

In general this is a pretty cool concept and for the price and probably a little bit of effort, you could generate some pretty cool effects.
